Sonja Larsen: From Memory to Meaning

From Memory to Meaning will explore ways to spark and engage with memories to create work that connects the writer and the reader on multiple levels.

Mary Karr said, “Every memoir should brim over with the physical experiences that once streamed in—the smell of garlicky gumbo, your hand in an animal’s fur…”

Starting with the idea that stories live not only in our memory but in our bodies, this online workshop will include writing exercises to help ground your work, and strategies for finding the thematic connections that give meaning and structure to your story.

Recognizing that most memoirs are about painful events, Sonja will also discuss ways to write about difficult topics.

There will be time for a Q&A following the workshop.
