Welcoming A Weekend of Workshops

We’re at that stage in the game where it does not seem as though audience capacity limitations (currently maxed out at 50 people in BC) is going to change anytime soon. It is not appropriate to plan any event that brings large numbers of people together, especially indoors, but we still want to bring our celebration of books, ideas and creators out to the world.

For this reason we’ve pivoted the Paper Covers Rock festival into a weekend of workshops. That means all of our speakers will be delivering a workshop, reading, presentation, or their own combination thereof to groups of around 20 people per session.

What you can expect:

  • Two tracks of programming each day (Friday March 5, Saturday March 6, Sunday March 7)

  • 8-10 workshops or sessions available each day, most 2 hours in duration

  • 25+ speakers

  • Content on fiction, creative non-fiction, memoir, poetry, graphic poetry, children’s books, lyric and songwriting, comedy, podcast, magazine writing, pitching, editing, comic books, illustration, cultural programming, public relations, and more.

  • Opening reception: we are problem solving around this. If we can safely do so within the parameters set by public health at the time of the event, we will host an opening reception limited to 50 people with an emphasis on socializing outdoors. Luckily for us, Salt Spring is home to many a cozy bonfire during crisp spring evenings, so that’s what we’re looking forward to!

  • We will be creating a Paper Covers Rock Member program. Membership will grant you early-bird access to ticket sales, as well as many other perks which are in the works.

To be planning an event within the context of a global pandemic requires fluidity, agility, and above all a concern for the health and safety of everyone involved. We care about books, ideas, and cultural connection. We want to celebrate those things, but only if we can do so responsibly. So for now until the last possible moment, we are holding the course of cautious optimism that Paper Covers Rock will take place March 2021. Luckily for us, and you, we’re pretty swift on our feet and will continually adapt to changing circumstances as we move forward.
