Ahava Shira
Memoirist

One of the most challenging parts of memoir is giving ourselves permission to "write what we want to write,” without the inner critic trying to deter us. Through guided meditations and timed writing exercises, you will be supported to get the words you want to write onto the page and to explore different ways of shaping them into story. There will also be an opportunity to read your words aloud and be seen and heard with kindness and compassion.

Ahava (she/her) is a poet, memoirist, writing mentor & teacher. She received her PhD in Language & Literacy Education from UBC, has published a book of poetry and a spoken word CD, and is co-author of Writing Alone Together: Journalling in a Circling of Women for Creativity, Compassion and Connection (2014). Her first memoir, Curve, is looking for a publisher, and her second, Touching Wood, is still becoming the book it’s meant to be. Ahava is grateful for all the dancing, meditating, hiking and collage/film/song-making she gets to do while living on the unceded land of the Coast Salish Peoples.
